The official website of the anime adaptation of Kawahara Reki‘s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel revealed staff, first trailer, key visual, and movie format on Sunday. Titled Gekijouban Sword Art Online: Progressive Hoshi Naki Yoru no Aria (Sword Art Online the Movie: Aria of a Starless Night), the movie is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters in 2021.

Voice actors Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu are returning as Kazuto Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki, respectively.
Kawahara began penning the side story light novel featuring illustrations by abec in October 2012. Kadokawa published the sixth and latest volume in May 2018.
A manga adaptation by Kiseki Himura began its serialization in Dengeki G’s magazine in June 2013. The manga switched to Dengeki G’s comic the following April and ended in February 2018.
