▍About the Series
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (小林さんちのメイドラゴン) is a manga series written and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya (クール教信者). The series began serialization in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine in May 2013. An anime TV series produced by Kyoto Animation aired in Japan between January and April 2017.
The comedy centers on office worker and programmer Kobayashi, who one day is greeted by a large dragon right outside her front door. The dragon immediately transforms into a human girl in a maid outfit, and introduces herself as Tohru.
It turns out, that during a drunken excursion into the mountains the night before, Kobayashi had encountered the dragon, who claimed to have come from another world. Subsequently, Kobayashi had removed a holy sword from Tohru’s back, earning her gratitude. With Tohru having no place to stay, Kobayashi offers to let the dragon stay at her home and become her personal maid.
The series inspired an anime adaptation that premiered in Japan in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub. Funimation released the anime on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on April 24.
The manga has also inspired the ongoing Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Kanna’s Daily Life and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Elma’s Office Lady Diary spinoff manga. The seventh volume of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Kanna’s Daily Life shipped on December 12 and the eighth volume ships on Tuesday. The third volume of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Elma’s Office Lady Diary shipped on December 12 and the fourth volume ships on Tuesday. Seven Seas is also releasing both manga.
A third spinoff manga, Kobayashi-san-chi no Maid Dragon: Lucoa wa Boku no xx Desu. (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Lucoa is my xx), launched in Futabasha‘s Monthly Action magazine on January 25.
